Getting Started at Pengwern
Pengwern Boat Club in Shrewsbury welcomes adult rowers of all ages and juniors aged 12 and over, offering opportunities to take part in rowing at a range of levels – from recreational outings to competitive racing, including pathways to higher-level competition.
We’re proud to serve the local community and surrounding areas from our beautiful riverside location.
If you have previous rowing experience – whether you’re moving to the area, returning after a break, or looking for a new club – you’re welcome to join us at any time of year.

Our Rowing Memberships
YOUNG PEOPLE ROWING

Our standard rowing membership package is available to adult members who have a suitable level of previous rowing experience or have completed the beginner development programme
ADAPTIVE ROWING

**Full time students must be pursing a course of at least one year’s duration and studying for at least 21 hours week.

Country membership

Open to experienced rowers who live 50+ miles from Shrewsbury. Permitted to row any day of the week and use the wider facilities. Limited to 12 water outings per year and cannot represent Pengwern Boat Club in a competition.
Friend Membership
per year
Available to supporters of Pengwern Boat Club who wish to keep in touch with Club life. Friends are able to join in Club social activities but are not able to use boats or land training facilities.
Cox
per year
Our coxing membership package is available to adults who have a suitable level of coxing experience. This permits them to cox but not row.
Have You Considered Coxing?
We’re always keen to welcome new coxes — from those just starting out and keen to learn, to experienced coxes looking for a new club or a fresh challenge. With crews training and competing at a variety of levels, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved – from steering stable recreational outings to coxing racing crews at local and national events. Full training and support are provided for beginners, and you’ll be a valued member of the crew from day one.

If you have coaching experience and are looking to get involved with a friendly and inclusive club, we’d love to hear from you. Pengwern supports rowers of all ages and abilities, and we’re always keen to welcome new coaches who want to help others develop and enjoy the sport. Whether you’re qualified or just starting your coaching journey, there are plenty of ways to get involved.
